Our staff is made up of Dispatchers, Drivers, and Medics. Below is a summary of each position and what it takes to clear that position.

Dispatcher

The Dispatcher is the liaison between the ambulance and the rest of the emergency response system.
The Dispatcher answers all the phones at the base. They are also responsible to record and convey all
vital information from the 911 system to the ambulance crew. Only through accurate information can the
appropriate equipment and personnel be sent to the scene. To be cleared as a Dispatcher, applicants must have completed Community First Aid, AHA CPR for the Healthcare Provider, Bloodborne Pathogens Awareness, and HIPPA Privacy Practices.

Driver

The Driver's responsibilities include driving the ambulance safely to and from the scene of an incident
and assisting the Medic at the scene.  Drivers also maintain communication with the 911 system, and the
Pittsford Volunteer Ambulance base.  Drivers are an integral part of the response team.  They are
thoroughly trained in emergency vehicle operation, Advanced First Aid, and CPR. To be cleared as a Driver, an applicant must be certified in Emergency Response (ER) or higher, as well as AHA CPR for the Healthcare Provider, HAZMAT and Bloodborne Pathogens Awareness, Emergency Vehicle Operations and Command (EVOC), and be cleared as a Second Medic.

Medic

A PVA Medic is responsible for the care of patients at an emergency scene.  All Medics are certified every
three years by New York State as Emergency Medical Technicians.  They are trained in first aid,
advanced CPR, obstetric procedures, burn treatment, trauma skills, airway control, and more. To be cleared as a First Medic, an applicant must be certified as an NYS EMT-D (or higher), AHA CPR for the Healthcare Provider, HIPPA Privacy Practices, HAZMAT and Bloodborne Pathogens Awareness.
